Ascencion Vargas Morales, 96, of Las Virgenes, Zacatecas, MX, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 7, 2025. Ascencion was surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 8, 1929 in Zacatecas, MX, the son of Elias Vargas and Reyes Morales.

Ascencion spend his childhood through early adulthood in La boquilla del Refugio, Zacatecas, helping his parents buy and sell cattle. He liked the quiet life of the region, spending his free time between riding his favorite azabache black horse and taking care of his work mules which he loved. He loved having clothes made to his fit, he was considered by many to be a very well dressed young man. He was also a member of the nocturnal adoration of the blessed sacrament youth group.

As an adult, he helped his mother and older sisters, raise his younger siblings while tending to the ranch.
In the 1950s, Ascencion and his family relocated to Baja California to start a new ranch and shorten the route between home and California as part of the Bracero Program. He and his father made countless trips up north to help work agriculture in the central valley. Ascension was blessed to have a large and diverse family, with 6 brothers, 2 sisters, and 2 close cousins that lived with them during their childhood.

In 1976, he married Noemi Reynoso, after a brief courtship to begin their family in Baja California. Ascencion and Noemi had 4 daughters together, +Consuelo Vargas, Rosa Maria (Vargas) Goslin, Idalia (Vargas) Diaz, and Maria (Vargas) Lopez. Ascencion and his family relocated to southern California to be closer to family and support educational aspirations for their daughters. They remained happily married for 49 wonderful years until his passing.

Ascension is survived by his wife Noemi Reynoso. his 3 daughters
Rosa Maria Goslin (Andrew Goslin), Idalia Diaz (Angel Diaz), and Maria Lopez (Jay Lopez); 12 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.

The family will hold a Memorial Service at St Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Bell Gardens, CA on September 27, with a viewing at 9 am, followed by a mass at 11am in his honor. Ascencion will be laid to rest at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Commerce, CA following the memorial service.
